Genoa owners 777 Partners are reportedly close to agreeing a deal to take over Premier League side Everton.

Sky Sports UK reports the Miami-based firm are close to acquiring a majority stake in Everton as talks with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri are at an advanced stage.

MSP Sports Capital had been negotiating with Moshiri over the last few weeks, but their exclusivity agreement has ended. This is not the first time 777 Partners are said to be close to buying Everton, as reports of an imminent takeover already emerged this past April.

777 Partners acquired Genoa from Enrico Preziosi in September 2021 in a deal believed to be worth €150m.

Il Grifone were relegated to Serie B after their first campaign at the club, but Genoa returned to Serie A after just one season, gaining promotion to Italy’s top flight in 2022-23 with Alberto Gilardino in charge.

Genoa have collected three points in the opening three Serie A games of the season, beating Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico and losing to Fiorentina and Torino.
