Genoa have rejected suggestions that they are planning to sign Federico Marchetti from Cagliari in January.

Reports earlier this week claimed that Italy’s 2010 World Cup ‘keeper would kick-start his career with a switch to Marassi after Christmas.

The Sardinian club even insisted that they were ready to offload him to the Grifone, but the latter don’t seem impressed.

“We are talking about a player who we have never chased or even been interested in,” said President Enrico Preziosi.

“Having got rid of Marco Amelia [to Milan] too, it is clear that we are not looking for any more goalkeepers.

“We are happy to have Eduardo with us. We’ll calmly wait for him to settle and he’ll demonstrate that he is a good goalkeeper.”

Portugal No 1 Eduardo had been linked with Fulham after struggling to settle since his summer move.

Marchetti, meanwhile, hasn’t featured for Cagliari all season after being frozen out of the squad for requesting a transfer.

He’s also in the process of trying to get his contract rescinded which could soon make him a free agent.
