The Marassi outfit have been trying to land the Chilean who is not guaranteed first team football in Naples.
“Napoli haven’t found a new striker so they won’t be letting go of Vargas,” Rossoblu President Enrico Preziosi told Radio Kiss Kiss. “He was part of our plans.”
The transfer rumour mill had suggested that the two clubs could have perhaps agreed a swap deal involving Vargas and Alberto Gilardino.
“That idea has been discussed and there are still a few days left in the transfer window,” Preziosi continued.
“Anything can happen, but when you go to try to conclude a deal with Napoli then nothing ever happens…”
Vargas was signed by Napoli in January for around €10m, but the 22-year-old failed to score in 10 League outings last season.
