Ruslan Malinovskyi will have surgery on Sunday to stabilise the fracture of his fibula, confirmed Genoa.

The Ukraine international got his studs caught in the turf of the Stadio Penzo during today’s 2-0 Serie A defeat to Venezia.

His leg bent under him and it was unfortunately immediately obvious that this was a very serious fracture.

Genoa have now released a statement confirming that the midfielder suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle in his right leg.

Malinovskyi will go under the knife tomorrow to stabilise the fracture and initial reports suggest he will be out of action for at least seven or eight months.

Devastating blow for Malinovskyi

The Ukraine international celebrated his 31st birthday in May and has 27 goals and 25 assists in 148 Serie A appearances.

He first came to Italy for Atalanta in the summer of 2019, then moved to Olympique Marseille in January 2023 before the transfer to Genoa for €7m.
