Genoa director Francesco Marroccu insists keeping Gianluca Scamacca on loan from Sassuolo was ‘a real coup’ amid Juventus and Parma interest.

The striker is currently on loan from Sassuolo and impressed so much at Marassi that he attracted offers from numerous clubs in Italy and abroad.

The most persistent were Juve and Parma, while there were also reports Sassuolo would recall the Italy Under-21 international.

The striker is currently on loan from Sassuolo and impressed so much at Marassi that he attracted offers from numerous clubs in Italy and abroad.

The most persistent were Juve and Parma, while there were also reports Sassuolo would recall the Italy Under-21 international.

“This was our idea from the start of the January transfer window, to keep a group that was working, and add in Kevin Strootman and Jerome Onguene,” Genoa director of sport Marroccu told Telenord.

“We realised straight away that keeping Scamacca would be a real coup. President Enrico Preziosi’s focus and ours was on keeping Scamacca and in the final days of the window, Genoa confirmed their status by rebuffing the other approaches.

“I also really liked the way Scamacca behaved, as he never pushed to leave and instead trusted us to make the decisions. After all, Genoa believed in Scamacca when nobody had really seen him in Serie A.”
