Genoa have opened talks with Leonardo Bonucci as they look to beat Lazio and Union Berlin to the Juventus veteran.

Bianconeri coach Massimiliano Allegri has cut the 36-year-old Italian centre back from the squad in Turin and didn’t bring him on the pre-season tour to the United States.

Bonucci, who has one year left on his contract with Juventus, has been in talks with both Lazio and Union Berlin in recent months, but has failed to finalise a move away from the Piedmont capital yet.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Genoa have contacted Bonucci to start exploring a possible move in the final week of the summer transfer window.

The 36-year-old hasn’t agreed a deal with Union Berlin yet and would prefer to stay in Italy, but hasn’t moved to Lazio because Maurizio Sarri still hasn’t given the green light.

Genoa have worked hard on strengthening their squad this summer, picking up players like Mateo Retegui and Ruslan Malinovskyi.
