Serie A Liveblog: Udinese vs. Salernitana chaos, Genoa vs. Atalanta and Juve vs. Cagliari

Genoa released a statement just hours before kick-off confirming that a member of the matchday group had tested positive for COVID-19.

However, it is not one of the players and all the other tests came back negative.

This evening’s Serie A match should not therefore be in doubt.

The rapidly-spreading Omicron variant is causing a spike in new COVID cases, although they are more likely to be asymptomatic for those who have been vaccinated.

There is increasingly tension between the Lega Serie A and the local health authorities (ASL) over when to impose quarantine on a squad that develops one or two COVID cases.

Salernitana had two positive tests, plus one who had some symptoms, and were ordered into quarantine by the ASL, meaning they could not travel for today’s planned game against Udinese.

However, the Lega Serie A stuck to its own protocol and did not officially postpone the match.
