Albert Gudmundsson has made a big splash in his debut Serie A season and Genoa director Marco Ottolini confirms they ‘received many phone calls, but no concrete offers.’

The 26-year-old can play on the right, left or as a support striker and was already instrumental in their promotion from Serie B after joining from AZ Alkmaar in January 2022 for €1.5m.

He really came into his own in the top flight, contributing six goals in 14 games, plus a further two goals and one assist in two Coppa Italia appearances.

“We received many phone calls, but no concrete offers,” Genoa director of sport Ottolini told the Secolo XIX newspaper.

“The intention of the club is to not sell anyone, but if offers are received, we will evaluate them and take the player’s opinion into consideration too. Albert is a very good player, he knows when to time his runs and always makes the difference taking men on. He has improved a lot in the last few months and will do even better once he learns the language.”

Gudmundsson is an Iceland international with 35 senior caps, six goals and three assists for his country.

He hails from a football family, as his father, uncle and grandfather were all professional players.

Most of his career was spent in the Netherlands, joining the Heerenveen academy in 2013, then moving on through PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar.
