Serie B side Genoa have been docked one point in the table after failing to pay outstanding taxes and contributions on time, but it could’ve been worse.

The missed payments were for September and October 2022.

They would’ve faced a stronger penalty, but the FIGC accepted Genoa’s plea bargain because the bank balance showed that on the December 16 deadline, there were sufficient funds to cover the outstanding payment.

CEO Andres Blazquez Ceballos was also fined €6,000.

The penalty drops Genoa down from 43 to 42 points in the current Serie B table, now 12 points adrift of leaders Frosinone.

They remain in second place, but are now only three points clear of the chasing pack of Bari, Reggina and Sudtirol.

Genoa started the campaign with German Alexander Blessin at the helm, but he was replaced on December 6 by former Italy striker and 2006 World Cup winner Alberto Gilardino, who was promoted from the Primavera youth team role.
