Genoa coach Andriy Shevchenko has tested positive for COVID-19, following captain Domenico Criscito.

The club announced the news of the two positive tests today, performed on December 27.

Criscito had already confirmed his COVID test via Instagram Stories, revealing his entire family unit of wife, two children and nanny had all tested positive.

It is the second time Criscito has contracted the virus, after September 2020, but is particularly worrying considering his wife gave birth to their daughter yesterday.

The development this evening is that coach Shevchenko has also tested positive for COVID-19.

There is no confirmation as to whether Shevchenko was vaccinated or not.

It means he will be in self-isolation and assistant manager Mauro Tassotti will take control of training when the squad comes back together at the ground on December 29.

There was also news today that Hirving Lozano tested positive while in Mexico, following on from Napoli teammates Lorenzo Insigne and Fabian Ruiz.
