Kevin Strootman could return to Serie A with Genoa and Cagliari battling to secure his services.

The 31-year-old joined the Grifone on a dry loan deal from Marseille in January.

He played 18 games with the Serie A side before returning to South France, but according to Tuttosport, Strootman could soon return to Italy.

Genoa have opened talks to re-sign the former Roma man on loan. However, Marseille want the Rossoblu to add an obligation to buy in the deal.

The two parties have not yet reached an agreement and the Turin-based paper reports Cagliari have also joined the race to sign the experienced midfielder.
