La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Roberto Mancini’s wife and lawyer, Silvia Fortini, sent a text message to FIGC President Gabriele Gravina days before the coach’s resignation demanding to cancel a clause in his contract with La Nazionale.

Mancini suddenly resigned as Italy’s coach last week and explained his decision by saying he no longer felt trusted by the federation. He accused President Gravina of changing some of his staff members and denied that a big Saudi offer was behind his decision to leave.

However, according to Gazzetta, Mancini didn’t mention problems related to his staff members in his letter to announce his departure.

On the other hand, his wife and lawyer sent a text message to Gravina on August 8 demanding to cancel a clause that would have allowed the FIGC to terminate Mancini’s contract if Italy had not qualified for the 2024 EURO.

Mancini felt he would have worked with less pressure if the clause was cancelled, but Gravina thought such a move would have made ‘no sense’, so he didn’t meet the coach’s request.

Five days later, FIGC announced Mancini’s resignation.

  1. Thanks for the Euros, but he should have gone when we didn’t qualify for the world cup, Apart from Pozzo, every Italian coach that has won the world cup or the Euro’s, has bombed in the next tournament
