According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan want to know if Rafael Leao will extend his contract within Easter and are unwilling to start the next season with the risk of losing him on a free transfer in 2024.

Leao’s current deal at San Siro expires in June 2024 and Milan directors are ready to meet the player’s entourage in the coming days. In the meantime, Leao returned to training at Milanello after the international break on Tuesday, one day ahead of schedule.

Gazzetta provides the latest updates about the contract saga, saying that the Rossoneri will offer their star a new lucrative deal, making him the club’s highest earner.

According to the report, Leao wants €7m per season plus a signing bonus and €16m to help him pay a fine to Sporting CP.

Milan are unwilling to offer as much, but Leao would still become the better-paid player at the club with bonuses included in his new contract. However, the defending Serie A champions are unwilling to pay part of the fee he owes to Sporting CP.

The Rossoneri could even agree to extend with Leao and then sell him over the summer, knowing that his contract would no longer expire in 2024.

The Portuguese striker has been offered to several top clubs by his agents, who have received no concrete offers yet. In any case, Milan don’t want to start the next season with only 12 months left in Leao’s contract, so they will try to sell him if the 23-year-old if he doesn’t sign a new contract within Easter.
