Milan are still hopeful agreeing a deal to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Japhet Tanganga but have lined up an alternative in case they are unsuccessful, according to reports in Italy.

Spurs’ 23-year-old defender has emerged as a target for the Rossoneri, various sources in Italy claim, but the club are looking to find a formula for the transfer which works.

Italian media claim Milan are hoping to agree a loan but there appear to be disputes of whether to possibility of them making the deal permanent should be an option or obligation.

And La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Milan be unsuccessful in their pursuit of Tanganga, they will turn their attentions to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Evan N’Dicka.

Milan have done quite a bit of business with the Bundesliga side in recent years.

Eintracht have signed André Silva and Jens Petter Hauge from Milan, with Ante Rebić making the opposite switch.

Gazzetta report the Europa League holders would want a straight €20 million deal for N’Dicka.

  1. Either he or even Tuta are substantial upgrades on Japhet. Japhet would struggle for games at salernitana.

Ask them for Borre’ as well.

  2. Ac milan with the new owners have been dreadful in the transfer market they need to make atleast 2 big signings

  3. To all Italians out there. Aren’t you tired of reading about all theses foreigners signings in serie A. You can’t find an article about Italian players. I guess we will complain again when Italy doesn’t make it to next World Cup or even win nation league.
Sad part all these foreigners are average players.

This isn’t Celtic in the 1960’s, fella. Clubs need to replenish using whatever players possible regardless of nationality. Tonali is at Milan not because he’s Italian, but because he’s good enough. Same goes for Calabria etc. If you’re good enough, you’ll get your chance.

Italy didn’t fail to qualify for the World Cup because of the lack of quality Italian talent. We failed because we didn’t convert any of the two pens vs Switzerland. That’s how it goes.

I long for that day!!! Even if it was talent from Lombardia, Trentin Sudtirol, Val d’Osta and Piemonte, that truly would be something to cherish.

  6. @Rosario
It would be interesting, that’s for sure. I’m not sure how many players would be available to the level of Tonali or Calabria though. Maybe more once the opportunity is there for them.

Well the entire population of the Basque Country is just over 2m. Granted, Athletic do now allow players who aren’t full Basque but it is still a small pool. And yet, they’re still Spain’s 4th most successful club and have ever been relegated from La Liga. In comparison, the total population of the four regions I mentioned would amount to nearly 17 million. In fact, Lombardia’s population is only a little less than that of Portugal. So if it was the case of needing to be born in Lombardia and or one of the four regions, there will be a decent size population pool to pick from.

There is though one distinct factor that Makes Athletic ‘special’. Identity. The kids going through the system living in an autonomous region with its own distinct culture and language will mean really cherishing the shirt. That’s why that policy has lasted for so long.

We are taught camponelismo into us from a young age, but you are right, it has to really be players just from Lombardia. Because of my grandma, I grew up speaking Ladin at home. So the whole idea of an all Lombardo club would be immensely gratifying. Difficult to see it happen though.

  9. Perhaps it could work but at a lower level. Certainly an attractive idea. It’s going back to the beginnings of football really. Or Calcio Storico if you prefer!

I don’t think EU law would allow it. Otherwise other private institutions could apply the same entry restrictions when it comes to employment of people. It would be seen as a discriminatory law effectively. Athletic have been allowed simply as their ‘custom’ goes back for well over a century. The closest thing we have is the Padania national team 😀😂

  11. Absolutely brilliantly put by Tony!
I have said it in every single Milan article! Firstly who are this players they are trying to sign anyways! I mean we are competing to sign players that Leeds and Newcastle are chasing?!?!?! I mean really! Worse still there are people actually trying to convince each other of the ‘better’ options when all options laid out are as bad as each other.
It makes NO sense to me to go to Africa, Eastern Europe, South America to find 20 year olds who are unproven when they can just walknoutside the front doors and find the same standard of Italian youth! We are not talking about a messi or Ronaldo we are talking about a load of players who’s names are impossible to say and who are absolutely UNKNOWN.
Milan have been linked with everyone from the bench warmer at spurs to the bench warmer in Belgium and now Tanganga and N’Dika! I mean COME ON!!!!

  12. EU law and any law can only be broken by doing something wrong! There is no law that says we have to fly the globe looking for foreign kids.
IF A SCOUT STAYS IN ITALY they will only see Italians. There we go problem solved. There is no law thats been broken in this instance. Who told Maldini and the other guy to leave Italy and attempt these ridiculous deals in the first place. Maldini has disappointed me even more by actually wasting his time entering these visits to these below average ‘stars’. I hope and pray they all fall through coz i haven’t seen a single player that will make a tiny diffrence to Milan. We will still get battered in Champions League.
I have never seen a team “strengthen” it’s team with worse players than they already had!

if the scout stays in Italy then will only see Italians? haha. You sound like the FI version of Nigel Farage. 😂

  14. Rosario- PSG can field more Italians than a team in Italy. If WestHam complete their quest this week they too will field more Italians than an Italian team. Now i don’t know about you BUT i am very very bored of watching world cups with Italy so unless teams like Milan with NO money start using what is in Italy instead of the rest of world we will suffer for many many more years!
It is possible to watch Serie A match’ where the only Italian on the field is the ref, THAT IS SHOCKING.

  15. Jez

PSG have Gigio and Verratti – both on huge salaries. Verratti had the chance to go to Milan when at Pescara but he didn’t because of homesickness. Then took the Arab money and now settled in Paris. How is that an Italian team’s fault?

  16. Jez

Is Scamacca worth the reported 40m plus post one good season? Nope. Would I want Milan to spend that sort of silly money on a barely proven player just because he is Italian? Nope.

shall we sign acerbi instead of a europa league winner?
