According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lille have paid a €22m fine to Sporting CP, so Rafael Leao has signed a contract extension with Milan until 2028.

The pink paper claims Leao has signed a four-year contract extension with the Rossoneri. His previous deal at the Stadio Meazza was due to expire in June 2024. The Athletic confirms the contract has been signed by the Portugal international.

According to Gazzetta, Leao has put pen to paper on a new agreement after Sporting CP received €22m from Lille. It was the fee due to the Portuguese side after Leao left the club by terminating his contract in 2018 without the club’s consent.

Leao will earn €7m per season plus €2m in signing bonuses, while his new release clause will be higher than the current €150m. The 23-year-old strongly wanted to remain at San Siro and reportedly turned down offers from Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Leao joined his teammates at Milan’s hotel on Wednesday but is unlikely to be available for the Champions League semi-final first leg against Inter.

Sky Sport Italia does not confirm that the striker has already signed a new contract but reports that his lawyer and family members are in Milan, so the next few days could be ‘decisive.’
