Gennaro Gattuso “absolutely understands and shares” Milan’s decision to take him off the Champions League list.

The midfielder has not played an official game since the opening Serie A meeting against Lazio on September 9.

He was diagnosed with sixth nerve palsy, a condition that affects the sight and movement in one eye, and it’s not yet clear when he will be back on the playing field.

“It was a decision that Gennaro absolutely understands and shares,” agent Andrea D’Amico told TMW.

“Milan and Gattuso have always moved in the same direction. We thank Milan for the support they are giving him.

“He hopes to recover as soon as possible so that he can repay all those who have shown him such affection.”

Gattuso was removed from the Champions League squad along with Antonio Cassano, who has been out since October following a stroke and surgery to correct a congenital heart defect.
