Following this show of support, Gattuso held a meeting with the OFI hierarchy as well as five players, with issues such as perceived broken promises by the President Manthos Poulinakis and late payment of wages reportedly being discussed.

“I’ll stay at my post,” Gattuso told assembled media at the conclusion of the summit.

“There are a lot of problems to be solved, but after such a show of love I couldn’t leave indifferent.

“For four months I’ve been doing my job as Coach, but at the same time having to solve various problems, even minor ones. It’s too much.

“But a lot of affection has been shown toward me, and I never doubted that the squad was very supportive of me.

“Therefore, I’ve decided to stay.”
