Gennaro Gattuso and Jose Mourinho are among the Coaches with the shortest odds to replace Rafa Benitez as Newcastle United’s next manager.

It was announced on Monday that Benitez would be leaving Newcastle after three-and-a-half years, the former Napoli boss having failed to agree a new contract with the Premier League side.

Gattuso was linked with the Magpies in April and Oddschecker has him down at 14/1, given he is currently out of work after departing Milan.

However, the odds are even shorter for Mourinho, who is priced at 7/1, despite the ex-Inter Coach suggesting he would only consider ambitious clubs.

That seemingly rules the Toon out if they remain under the ownership of Mike Ashley, although they have been linked with a takeover.

Meanwhile, Sport Mediaset claims the Portuguese would like to bring ex-Inter defender Marco Materazzi with him if he becomes Newcastle’s new manager.

Materazzi won the Treble with Mou in 2010 and has since gone into coaching himself, working as a player-manager for Indian club Chennaiyin FC between 2014 and 2016.

The 45-year-old is no stranger to England, having played for Everton during the 1998-99 campaign – and picking up three red cards.
