“Against Lazio it’ll be a Final: if we want to qualify for the Champions League, we can’t lose. We need maximum points,” he said after Monday’s meeting between clubs and referees.
Gennaro Gattuso has warned that Milan cannot afford to lose their ‘Final’ against Lazio this weekend ‘if we want to qualify for the Champions League.’
Milan’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus on Saturday was mired in controversy after several decisions went against them, but Gattuso insisted his side could have ‘no excuses’.
“Against Lazio it’ll be a Final: if we want to qualify for the Champions League, we can’t lose. We need maximum points,” he said after Monday’s meeting between clubs and referees.
“It emerged during the meeting how more yellow cards were being shown and too many mistakes were being made, but right now we have to focus on our own work.
“We’ve been penalised at times by some errors, but it mustn’t be an excuse, neither for me nor my players.
“We played well against Juventus. Some incidents didn’t go the right way, but we must look forward.”
The result means the Rossoneri have lost three and drawn one of their last four games, although Krzysztof Piatek has started scoring again.
“It’s not like the others aren’t running,” he maintained.
“Kris is doing well. I hope he finishes top scorer, but for it to happen the whole team must run.
“We need everyone, including the defenders and midfielders.”
