Gennaro Gattuso won’t rule out Napoli pushing Atalanta for a top four finish and admits he would’ve hated playing against his current squad. ‘I see football differently now.’
The Partenopei continued their impressive march up the table with a 3-1 win over SPAL, decided by Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon and Amin Younes.
“We cannot do any more than this,” said Gattuso in his press conference when asked about Napoli’s Champions League ambitions.

The Partenopei continued their impressive march up the table with a 3-1 win over SPAL, decided by Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon and Amin Younes.
“We cannot do any more than this,” said Gattuso in his press conference when asked about Napoli’s Champions League ambitions.
“Atalanta are hardly a surprise by this point. They’ve been doing well for years, we still have an important trip to Bergamo coming up, but we don’t know if that will be enough.”
Callejon found the net, but although he has agreed to see out the rest of the season, he won’t renew his contract for next term.
“I am glad that Callejon signed on to finish the season, because he gave so much to this club and he couldn’t leave this way. He always works hard and the President (Aurelio De Laurentiis) took a step forward too, promising to pay the insurance until August.
“Hirving Lozano is training well now and I am giving him a chance in return. He has this incredible pace, we should put him in a position to give his best. He had chances to score today and I hope he’ll get them next time.”
Napoli no longer have Maurizio Sarri, but have retained the kind of quick-passing football that Gattuso as a player was not associated with.
“In my first few years when I was playing against the Spanish teams that passed it around and around, it’d drive me crazy,” confessed the former Milan midfielder.
“I was on my own trying to press them and they’d leave me like piggy in the middle. When the game ended, I’d say we were playing a whole different sport in Italy, but now football has changed here too and there are many teams with a great passing game.
“I see football differently now to when I was a player. I like to keep possession and run few risks.”
