Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso reportedly told Faouzi Ghoulam ‘I don’t care about Mendes’ when he sent the player to the stands against Bologna.
Both Ghoulam and Mario Rui were sent to the stands on November 8 ahead of Napoli’s 1-0 win at the Dall’Ara.
“They stayed in the stands, because they were jogging around in training yesterday. I brought them along anyway, because it’s too easy to just let them stay home and watch it on the couch.” Gattuso told Sky Sport after the game.
Gattuso took his decision on the eve of the game and according to Il Corriere dello Sport he told Ghoulam: ‘I don’t care about Jorge’, referring to Mendes who is not only the agent of the Algerian defender but also represents the coach himself.
“They weren’t concentrated or sharp enough in the final training session, so he made this decision. He saw they weren’t entirely on their toes and made this choice,” Napoli’s director of sport said after the game.
