Gennaro Gattuso admits he was so fired up during Milan’s 2-1 win over Bologna that “I could’ve stood under the snow bare-chested.”

The Coach got his first victory for the club thanks to a Jack Bonaventura brace at San Siro, which also ended the Rossoneri’s four-match dry run on home turf.

The Coach got his first victory for the club thanks to a Jack Bonaventura brace at San Siro, which also ended the Rossoneri’s four-match dry run on home turf.

“Bologna had a few chances to equalise, we certainly need to improve our defending, as there’s clearly a long way to go,” Rino told Mediaset Premium.

“I am very happy for the win, I thanked the lads and hugged them one by one. I know what they are doing and what they give throughout the week, so I thank them for the mentality, but also realise there’s a long road ahead of us.”

Gattuso was asked if he felt tense in his first San Siro match as a Coach.

“I am tense even when playing fussball with my kids, so that’s just my nature… I feel the game intensely, let alone with the Milan jersey that I wore for 14 years. It’s an honour and a privilege to be back here representing this club.

“I realise that when people see me on the touchline, it must be ridiculous. I didn’t feel cold, I could’ve stood there in the snow bare-chested if needed.”

This weekend, Gattuso shelved Vincenzo Montella’s three-man defence and the 4-3-3 appeared to pay off.

“Bonaventura has so much quality and an eye for goal that you can put him anywhere. I always said he’s one of the best midfielders in Italy. He had a lot of injuries lately and can certainly help when he finds his fitness.

“Ignazio Abate is another player who only started training again over the last few weeks. Patrick Cutrone had played well against Rijeka, so I put faith in him to come off the bench first today.

“I admire the way Montella works and his insistence on never throwing the ball away, but my football has more pace and forward momentum. There is great respect for Vincenzo.

“I’m happy, but we have another game coming up and our position in the table is still not good. I just have to take it one game at a time and try to suffer as little as possible, because the defence certainly needs work.”
