New coach Motta, in fact, explained his plans for next season to Gatti, telling him that he would be deployed as a centre-back or as a right-back.

Motta had adopted a similar approach with Austria international Stefan Posch at Bologna.

The 27-year-old had mostly played as a centre-back before his move to the Stadio Dall’Ara, but he consistently played on the right flank under Motta, contributing to the club’s first Champions League qualification in over 60 years.

Gatti has made 50 Serie A appearances and is entering the third year of his contract at the Allianz Stadium.
