Off the back of his goalscoring performance with Juventus in the Europa League, Federico Gatti has revealed his ‘dreams’ of representing Italy in Roberto Mancini’s national set-up.

The former amateur-level defender bagged his first goal in a Juve shirt since joining the club in January 2022 against Sporting CP in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final on Thursday night.

The 24-year-old was on hand to bundle home Dusan Vlahovic’s initially saved header after 73 minutes to claim the only goal of the game.

Speaking to the press in the mixed zone of the Allianz Stadium after the 1-0 win in Europe, Gatti disclosed that it would be a ‘dream’ to represent the national team at some point in the future.

Gatti told the media: “Well I always dream of every kid and the national team representing your country is the best thing there is but it’s still far away.

“Now I want to put all my energy into Juventus. We have an all too important season finale that can change the future, it can really change everything.”

Gatti had at first struggled to settle into life in the top flight after joining the Juve first team from his loan back to Frosinone at the end of last season, but has since gone on to form a decent partnership with Brazilian duo Danilo and Gleison Bremer.

Juventus put their faith in Gatti upon his signing by offering a contract which is valid until the summer of 2027.
