Federico Gatti says scoring a late winner against Monza was an ‘incredible’ emotion and reveals Juventus players had talked about going to the top of the Serie A table before the game.

Juventus secured an incredible 2-1 win away at Monza on Friday, seeing Valentin Carboni equalise for the hosts at minute 91, but eventually winning the game thanks to Gatti one minute later.

“How can I tell you about it? It’s an incredible emotion to score such an important goal,” Gatti told DAZN after the final whistle.

“We had told each other before the game that we had to be table leaders after the final whistle. It’s a shame for the goal we conceded because we could have done more, including myself. We were a little tired, but I made up for it immediately. These three points are so important.”

Does this mean Juventus players believe they can win the Scudetto?

“We play for this,” Gatti confirmed.

“Before the game, we said we had to be leaders after the match. It was super tough. Monza are solid and united and last season, we hadn’t even earned a point against them. It is a fundamental victory.”

All Juventus players embraced Gatti after his winner, what’s his relationship with his teammates?

“I live for them and I could do anything for them. We are an important group, they are like my second family. I spend more time with them than my first family, so we have a solid bond.”

Gatti’s goal was a full-circle moment as the Italian defender was blamed for Monza’s winner in the same fixture last season, scored by Christian Gytkjær.

“Hard work always pays off. I am here at Juventus. I made an error last season, but it helped me work even harder, on and off the pitch. Tonight’s victory is too important,” Gatti concluded.
