“I think so, yes,” Gasperini responded when asked about the subject by il Mattino.

“But as long as we’re not at August 31 I can’t say for sure. I hate that the transfer window is open for so long, but everyone says that.

“It’s something horrible and incomprehensible that we’re talking about transfers when the season has started.

“We need to change the dates, and also the winter window has no reason for existing.

“Why do players think about money and not the best place for their growth? Because the big ones have taught them that, that money is the most important thing.

“For example, I spoke to Spinazzola and I told him that at his age he has to be playing, and even at Juventus they’ll appreciate a choice like that. It’s not easy for them to understand that.”

Several players this summer have refused to train, with Andrea Conti threatening to do so before his move to Milan.

“It’s something you can’t support, in some cases it seems like blackmail and that’s just absolutely unacceptable.

“It’s understandable if a player wants to go to a big club, but there are ways of going about it…

“Then you have to remember where you come from and where you were playing the year before. Always.”

Have the departures of Conti and Franck Kessié’s departures affected Atalanta’s chances this season?

“Of course, it’s not nothing,” Gasperini cautioned.

“Some were budgeted because it’s logical for a club like ours to sell our best young players, but not others. It’s a shame.

“Had some of them stayed, I’m convinced we could have repeated our path from last season.”
