Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini revealed Robin Gosens could be back against Young Boys in the Champions League. ‘Perhaps also for Saturday against Juventus’.
The Orobici are preparing for the away game against Young Boys in the Champions League and Gasperini is not particularly happy with the synthetic ground in Switzerland.
“The synthetic is an anomaly, it’s played only here, in the Champions League, while there are no other matches in the league,” Gasperini said at a press conference.
“It’s different in the way you play, the way the ball bounces, the speed of the ball. We are not happy with this, but at the same time it’s not an excuse for us. This is an important game where the result counts.”
Young Boys play their first game since the international break and Gasperini said the national games are interrupting in many ways.
“The stop for the national teams entails this, sometimes we complain if the players arrive on Thursday and we play on Saturday, other times if we don’t play,” Gasperini added.
“This is a team that has been playing together for a long time. It’s a fundamental match, to make the last one decisive.”
Atalanta won 1-0 over Young Boys in Bergamo, but Gasperini believes it will be a different encounter on Tuesday.
“It was a different situation, because Young Boys arrived after a win against Manchester United,” he said. “They showed up in Bergamo very covered, cautious, played a defensive match.
“I think it will be more open tomorrow, both teams want to win. It will be different.”
Gasperini has good news ahead of the match and could give Robin Gosens some minutes in Switzerland.
“We have recovered everyone a bit, we might have Gosens back and perhaps also for Saturday against Juventus,” Gasperini said. “Soon [Hans] Hateboer too, finally.
“There was a moment of great emergency, but the lads’ ability to adapt came out. The five substitutions have changed a lot, having everyone available is finally an advantage.”
Atalanta arrive after scoring five goals in the last league match against Spezia and Gasperini was asked if anything has changed during the recent weeks.
“It’s clear that the results increase our confidence,” he continued. “Also, the recovery of the injured players and finding our best condition.
“It was an anomalous start, very late and without preparation, with long stops.”
