Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has replied to Papu Gomez after the striker’s comments about his exit from Bergamo. ‘The physical attack came from him, not me. The real reason he left was because he disrespected the owners of the club’.

Argentina international claimed the Orobici coach ‘tried to physically attack me’ in the dressing room after he ‘disobeyed’ orders on the pitch in a match against Midtjylland in the Champions League.

Gomez: ‘Gasperini tried to attack me, he never apologised’

The former captain opened up on his farewell and explained to La Nacione how the coach and the club behaved towards him.

But Gasperini responded to the comments in a statement to La Gazzetta dello Sport, claiming it was the opposite way around.

“Gomez’s behaviour and attitude, on and off the pitch, had become unacceptable for the coach and his teammates,” Gasperini told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The physical attack came from him, not me, but the real reason he left Bergamo is because he seriously disrespected the owners of the club.

“I hope that Gomez can continue to be talked about for his performances, as he did at Atalanta.”

  1. Such a pity because he was along with Gasperini an integral part of Atalanta‘s recent rise to prominence. We sometimes forget that people are individuals and they sometimes fall out.
