Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has “no plans” to fire Gian Piero Gasperini, and wants fans to back the team.

The Grifone finished sixth in Serie A last season, but are just two points above the drop zone this term, leading to speculation the Coach could be given his marching orders.

“The squad are there,” Gasperini explained to Tele Nord.

“They’re attached to the Coach, so I have no plans to change the Coach. We’ve gone into difficulty in terms of results as players, club and Coach and now we’re the ones who have to get out.

“The fans? When it comes to the fans we have to differentiate between good fans and fake ones. If you don’t scream and cause choas, does that mean you’re not a passionate fan?

“Whistling and applauding the opponent – I don’t like that. There’s a lot of talk about Genoa fans, but to me they’re not an easy support.

“It’s too easy to cheer when things are going well, I want to see the fans when things go wrong.

“They criticise the President, and I’ve always accepted that, they can criticise the Coach, but blaming the players and whistling after 120 minutes is not good.

“If the fans love their club, they have to be better in times of difficulty, everyone together.”
