Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini says being made an honorary citizen of Bergamo is ‘the most beautiful gift I’ve ever received’.
Gasperini was recognised by the council of Bergamo ‘for having led Atalanta to objectives of extraordinary sporting value, which add lustre and visibility to the entire city.’
“We want to live other emotions, perhaps even stronger ones,” the Coach said upon receiving his new title.
"We want to give the people of Bergamo enthusiasm and joy because throughout this whole story, the one that moved us the most was seeing happiness in the eyes of the fans.
“For me, it’s not a award but rather the most beautiful gift I’ve ever received.”
The 61-year-old moved to the Dea in the summer of 2016 from Genoa and has won 72 of his 142 games in charge, drawing 36 and losing 34.
He guided them to the Champions League for the first time in their history, courtesy of a third-place finish in Serie A last season.
