Palermo Coach Gian Piero Gasperini has been reminiscing about his time at Genoa, as the two face-off in Serie A this weekend.

The 54-year-old tactician left the Stadio Luigi Ferraris two years ago before an ill-fated spell at Inter, but he has been reliving his experiences at the Grifone, calling it a 'perfect relationship'.

“It has been almost two years,” he told La Repubblica. “Yet it still feels like yesterday. It was an abrupt ending, but that does not erase what was a beautiful time – I still have strong feelings for the club.

“Everything was good at Genoa – starting with the football that we played. It was a perfect relationship between the fans and myself. They asked for more on the pitch, and we did not pull back.”

Palermo travel north to face Genoa on Saturday October 6, kick off at 19.45 BST.
