There’s no stopping La Dea at the moment, as they continue entertaining Serie A viewers with goal-packed games, this time a 3-2 thriller away to Udinese.
“There are too many games to go, so we can’t say that we’ve locked down a top four finish,” insisted Gasperini, despite going nine points clear of fifth-placed Roma.
“The effort is starting to get to us. We used up so much energy against Lazio, it was a struggle today and we made all five substitutions fairly early. I am glad that the lads always went for the win.”
Muriel came off the bench and scored twice, confirming his status as the Serie A supersub.
“He is joy personified, a wonderful guy who is always so much fun,” smiled Gasp.
“Muriel has been in excellent shape recently, whereas he came on against Lazio and looked half-dead. He even thought he’d done well in that game, so the day after I had a massive go at him… Today, he responded with two goals.
“We must realise that we don’t just score goals because we run hard, but it’s how we run. If we get Muriel back to his best and Josip Ilicic comes on, then the quality level goes up.
“It’s good that we scored so many goals and that helped keep the confidence going. This is a team that helps revitalise players because it’s a wonderful atmosphere that helps them give their best. If they get it badly wrong here, they’ll struggle to do well elsewhere.”
