‘Gasperini has done excellently’

Renzo Ulivieri has praised Gian Piero Gasperini for having ‘done excellent things’ during his spell with Genoa.

The tactician returned to Marassi earlier this season and has taken the Grifone from a potential relegation battle into mid-table security with weeks of the season left.

It is a turnaround that has the President of the Italian Coaches’ Association more than impressed.

“Gasperini has adopted a 3-4-3 which has been nothing short of spectacular,” Ulivieri has told Il Secolo XIX this week.

“He, then, has shown his intentions – we must remember also that in the year Genoa were promoted to Serie A, it was Juventus and Napoli that also came up.

“He has done excellent things at Genoa, but not only there – I think of Crotone, as a young man, for example.

“It is no coincidence that we take the coaching students at Coverciano for two days to follow his training sessions.”
