Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini continued his feud with Fiorentina, insisting President Rocco Commisso ‘is boorish every time he opens his mouth.’

The situation deteriorated after La Dea were beaten 3-2 at the Stadio Franchi in Serie A at the weekend.

Gasperini stoked the flames of the feud in his comments after that match, noting the Viola supporters were “understandably frustrated to see Atalanta overtake them.”

President Commisso was asked about this and replied with a curt insult that we will not be repeating here.

Speaking in a press conference in Bergamo following this evening’s 2-0 Europa League victory over Rakow, Gasperini was questioned on his response to Commisso.

“He is boorish and he is boorish every time he opens his mouth. He does it with everyone, I don’t even want to give a reply. All I ever did was defend Atalanta.

“And when I did defend Atalanta, it was to fight against the most extraordinary things. It all started with the Chiesa incident. That should be pulled back out and put online so people can see it again.”

The incident was all the way back in 2019 when Federico Chiesa earned an extremely soft penalty for Fiorentina against Atalanta.

“I didn’t say he was a diver, just that it was a completely farcical penalty, perhaps the worst that has been allowed in the VAR era,” Gasperini had said at the time.

“Defending him by saying that he was intelligent to earn that or that he accidentally tripped is simply disrespecting the opponents. Chiesa is a great player, but this is not the right way to help him develop.

“It risks creating a situation where opposition fans jeer him and become hostile.”

Ever since then, the animosity between Gasperini and Fiorentina has escalated, even long after Chiesa left the Viola to join Juventus.
