Gian Piero Gasperini is confident the real Atalanta was seen in a 4-0 Champions League win at Midtjylland, not defeat to Napoli.

La Dea looked a different team to the side that was beaten 4-1 at the Stadio San Paolo in Serie A on Saturday.

“We had so many great games, so an off day can happen and we had difficulties leading up to Napoli. This team always reacted well to setbacks, we needed to win today and it was not easy, no matter what the result looks like,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We did well to start strong, because Midtjylland run hard, it won’t be easy for anyone to come here and take all three points.

“The statistics show we score a lot of goals, and they were very good goals too. We had to start strong, unlike last season, especially as we’ve got Ajax and Liverpool at home, so those will be some of the most decisive matches in the group. It’s important that we have three points on the board going into those fixtures.”

Luis Muriel, Duvan Zapata, Papu Gomez and Aleksei Miranchuk scored the goals in Denmark.

“Miranchuk had a lovely goal too, it’s positive for him to get his first. We also did well in defence and I want to underline that aspect too.

“Miranchuk was out for a month, he hasn’t really managed a full training ground test with us. Josip Ilicic has recovered, we hope to get Ruslan Malinovskyi back too and with Sam Lammers, I think we’re well covered upfront.”
