Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini said the Orobici are ‘confident’ ahead of the ‘decisive’ home game against Villarreal in the Champions League.
La Dea have all to play for on Wednesday night, as Gasperini’s men must win against the Yellow Submarine to qualify for the second phase of the competition.
UCL | Juventus and Inter have qualified, what do Milan and Atalanta need to follow them?
The Orobici are fourth in Serie A and arrive from big wins over Juventus, Venezia and Napoli in Serie A, but the 3-3 draw with Young Boys has left them in a difficult situation in Europe.
Atalanta started Group F with a 2-2 draw with Villarreal in Spain and Gasperini expects another difficult task at the Gewiss Stadium.
“There’s confidence to hit the finish line. This is a strong team, they won the Europa League a few months ago,” Gasperini said at a press conference.
“They are going through some difficulties in the league, but this is another competition. We know what difficulties to expect.
“We arrive after a good run of results, but we must cancel out both defeats and wins, we restart from 0-0 and there’s only one useful result.
“We will play the decisive game at home, but we are not sure of qualifying. However, we are confident.”
