Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini provided an example of modern football problems when viewing his very own VAR monitor in the form of smartphone during the game with Fiorentina.

La Dea went a goal down to a penalty, which was awarded after the referee had gone to the pitch-side monitor.

He decided Joakim Maehle had moved his arm intentionally towards the ball and prevented it from reaching Jose Callejon at the back post.

It took a very long time to resolve the situation and during this period, Gasperini got hold of someone’s smartphone on the bench to watch the replay himself.

He had to put his glasses on to check the footage more accurately, and when the referee awarded a penalty, almost seemed to offer his spectacles to the official.

The moment was turned into a meme with Gasp staring in shock at messages coming in on the phone.
