Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini claims “strange things are happening” with Serie A’s use of video assistant referees (VAR).
The controversy surrounding VAR in Serie A took another turn on Sunday as Patrick Cutrone’s goal in a 2-1 win for Milan against Lazio was allowed to stand, despite the ball appearing to hit his arm.
“Yesterday was unfortunate, but certain mistakes have been repeated for a few Sundays now,” the Coach told Radio Anch’io Sport.

“Yesterday was unfortunate, but certain mistakes have been repeated for a few Sundays now,” the Coach told Radio Anch’io Sport.
“VAR is always the same, the images aren’t wrong. It’s the interpretations that can cause controversy.
“Confidence [in VAR] needs to be restored. I hope referees are able to explain certain decisions because strange things are happening with regards to their interpretations.
“There’s something unclear about them, so we must remedy them. Otherwise, the whole system loses credibility.
“With handballs, there’s real confusion about them. At the moment, not everyone is reading incidents in the same way.
“On the other hand, there are some really difficult situations to decipher and we must learn to accept it. It’s a time of transition.”
