Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini doesn’t want to risk anything by starting a new player against Lazio, despite confessing Cristian Romero ‘is ready’.

Romero moved on loan with an obligation to buy with conditions from Juventus but Gasperini is unsure if he should risk starting with a new defender against the Biancocelesti.

“Romero is ready to start, but I don’t know if he will play,” Gasperini said at a press conference. “To insert a new player in a game with points up for grabs, I don’t know.”

Left-back Mojica arrived from Girona and Lammers moved to Bergamo from PSV Eindhoven this summer, and both entered with five minutes left to play of the 4-2 win against Torino last time.

“At the moment there are Mojica and Lammers who have just arrived, I feel like they can do some bits. They’re not prepared to start.

Cristiano Piccini moved back to Italy from Valencia but has not played in a year due to a fractured kneecap and Gasperini is worried.

“What worries me most is Piccini,” the coach said. “He has been training differently for three to four weeks.

“We need to understand if he can soon come in handy, otherwise he puts us in difficulty.”

Gasperini confirmed Miranchuk will be back in action after the international break in October.

“Miranchuk will recover after the break, [Matteo] Pessina and [Pierluigi] Gollini will need more time."
