The Orobici were 2-0 down after 34 minutes, but goals from Abdoulay Konko and Emmanuel Latte Lath piled late pressure on the trophy holders.

“It was an excellent second half performance and we were on the same level as Juventus,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

“Overall it has to be considered a positive game. We gave it our best shot and scared them, but were unable to get the goal for extra time. I am happy with how Latte Lath played and his goal.

“I personally do not like the structure of the competition, as it gives too many advantages to the big clubs.”

The Round of 16 is a one-off clash with the stronger side in the draw getting to play on home turf.

It was the first match for Atalanta since selling Roberto Gagliardini to Inter for a reported €28m, including bonuses.

“Faced with certain offers, you cannot say no. It’s a big loss for us, but it’s in the past now,” added Gasperini.
