Garrone explains Di Carlo axe

Sampdoria President Riccardo Garrone insists he had little option but to show Domenico Di Carlo the door.

The tactician was sacked by the Marassi outfit this afternoon after a 3-2 home loss to struggling Cesena – their ninth reverse in the last 13 League games.

"Di Carlo is a good guy, but I couldn't make any other decision because the results are just not arriving," Garrone stated.

Di Carlo was replaced by Alberto Cavasin today in what many perceive is just a short-term solution until the summer.

"I don't know if Cavasin is just here as a ferryman until someone new arrives," Garrone added. "Results from now until the end of the season will decide that. The results are all that matter."

Cavasin, a survival specialist, will make his Doria debut at the weekend when the side travel to Catania.

Sampdoria are now just three points above the drop zone.
