Walter Gargano has sent an open letter to the Napoli fans which explains why he has opted to join Inter.

The Uruguayan is set to join the Beneamata on loan for the campaign after fearing that he would spend large parts of the season on the bench at the Stadio San Paolo.

“Dear fans, I leave Napoli after five unforgettable years,” the central midfielder wrote. “It was a painful decision for me, agreed with the club, but I want to point out that I wanted it.

“You know that I like to play all of the time and this year Napoli's midfield has become much more dense than in the past and there was a risk of being left out.

“I asked the club to loan me out and President Aurelio De Laurentiis made me happy by sending me to Inter.”

Gargano will join the Beneamata on a €1.5m loan deal, with an option to buy clause set at €5m next summer.

“I created my family in Naples and my children were born there,” he added. “There is a strong bond with Naples and with the fans, where I spent a great part of my life and I am grateful to you all.

“Everything is possible in football and I can’t exclude the possibility that I will return at the end of the season.”
