Walter Gargano has turned down his latest call-up to the Uruguay national team to continue training with Napoli.
The midfielder was listed in Oscar Tabarez’s original selection for friendlies this month away to Saudi Arabia and Oman.
However, Napoli have confirmed on their website that the 30-year-old is instead staying with them for the international break.

“Gargano requested and was cleared by the Uruguayan Federation to stay in Naples to train, therefore missing the friendlies with Saudi Arabia and Oman,” the club’s statement reads today.
Gargano is back in the first team picture under Rafa Benitez, following two successive seasons on loan away from the San Paolo.
