Walter Gargano took over press conference duties ahead of tomorrow’s Coppa Italia semi-final with Siena. “Napoli want to win the trophy.”
The Partenopei beat Inter to reach the final four and Coach Walter Mazzarri left his midfielder to answer media questions.
“We will encounter a Siena side that is very closed and do everything to make it difficult for us,” said the Uruguayan.
“However, we will not be affected by the 1-1 draw we got at the Stadio Franchi three weeks ago. We’ve got to do better than in that Serie A meeting.
“We broke the Inter taboo in the quarter-finals and have no intention of stopping now. This squad has been together for many years, so we’ve grown together consistently and now Napoli want to win the trophy.
“The problem is that opponents have understood what tactics to use against us and we are working on alternative solutions. At times we struggle because of mental tiredness, as we weren’t used to playing three times a week.”
Gargano was asked about midfield teammate Gokhan Inler, who was dropped at the weekend after poor form and jeers from the fans.
“If Inler isn’t playing well, it’s because the whole team is not giving him the right support. People expected more from Gokhan, but the truth is he is doing pretty well.
“The fans and media, you’re just never happy. I was jeered last season for my fitness levels, but now everyone has understood I was going through a phase.”
