Walter Gargano’s agent confirmed Benfica talks, while Napoli teammate Emanuele Calaiò rejected a move to PAOK FC.
Uruguay international midfielder Gargano has returned to base after Inter decided not to take up their option for a permanent switch.
“I was contacted by Benfica last week, but they were informal talks,” agent Pablo Betancourt told journalists.
Gargano has also been linked with Malaga and Valencia.
Meanwhile, his Napoli teammate Calaiò revealed he rejected a proposal from Greece.
“I am very happy that PAOK are interested in me, but I want to stay in Italy,” he told Greek radio Arena FM.
“The club offered me a two-year contract with very good wages, but I have to say other teams are looking at me.
“I know PAOK are in the Champions League and have many strong players, but I’d like to remain in Serie A.”
