“I look at the game in general,” Coach Garcia told Mediaset Premium. “It looks to me like an undeserved defeat. The numbers say we didn’t put in an excellent performance, but it was a good one.
“We lacked determination in front of goal, but if we play like this in future, we will win many games. Handanovic was Man of the Match and that says it all.”
Edin Dzeko wasted several good chances and seemed sluggish. How long before he finds his form?
“He needs to play regularly in order to increase his fitness levels. We could’ve taken the lead and that would’ve changed the game. We deserved at least a draw, even just for the chances we created when down to 10 men.
“In the first half Edin was too isolated, but we improved after the break. When we cross, we don’t necessarily have to aim for Dzeko, as there are other options.
“Mohamed Salah was clear on goal in front of Handanovic, but fired straight at the goalkeeper. We defended well, but the decisive goal was scored by someone who is not exactly their best long-range marksman. Could Wojciech Szczesny have done better on that shot? Clearly."
Roma have lost the Serie A leadership and depending on other results could find themselves in fourth place by tomorrow evening. Are they Scudetto contenders?
“I am not interested in that. I am looking at today’s game. It looks a lot like our defeat to Sampdoria and we actually played even better here.”
