This 0-0 at the Bentegodi was incredibly Roma’s eighth draw in the last 10 games.
“More than the result, we played badly, so it is different to the other draws we’ve played recently,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“Playing like that we could’ve been on the field for three hours and still not scored. This was a terrible performance.
“We have to move more. From tomorrow we’ll resume training and must do so much better. Our performances had been getting more and more interesting in recent weeks, but I didn’t see the hunger, the determination or anything, especially in the first half.
“There wasn’t one player better or worse than the rest today. We had all studied and prepared and dictated we’d play behind the Chievo defenders. I didn’t see that happen once.
“The plan was to press Chievo high up the field, but we made too many bad choices and it’s also hard to move the ball around quickly on this very dry pitch. We had too many mistakes, even simple passes.
“In the first half I didn’t recognise my team at all. The only positive from the day is that we played badly and still picked up a point away from home. That’s not much to celebrate. It was truly disconcerting.
“This is one of the few times, perhaps the first, that I do not recognise my team. Tomorrow we have to tell each other the truth and have a strong response, as there are four big games coming up and we must show our real faces.
“I find it bizarre, as we had been in a more positive period than negative, so I am astounded by this performance.”
The match was overshadowed by a horrific injury to Chievo’s 19-year-old full-back Federico Mattiello, who fractured his tibia and fibula.
“Obviously that was the saddest note of the day. It’s always sad to see a player suffer an injury like that and our thoughts are with him.”
