Napoli boss Rudi Garcia reveals he reproached Victor Osimhen during the half-time break: ‘He used to press and defend more.’

The Nigerian forward netted a brace in Napoli’s 3-1 win over Frosinone on Saturday, but Garcia wasn’t entirely happy with his performance, especially in the first half.

“Offensively, he was excellent, he scored two goals and there is nothing I can tell him,” Garcia told DAZN.

“Defensively, I didn’t like him at all and I told him during the break. He used to press more and defend better in the past. We changed this thing in the second half and we played with more quality.

“I knew he was not fit to play 90 minutes, but we waited for his second goal,” continued Garcia.

“He is a leader and this will never change, it’s his strong point.”

New signing Jens Cajuste surprisingly started in the middle of the park but caused a penalty kick in the opening stages.

“He was just unlucky, he caused a penalty and it can happen,” said Garcia.

“Of course, when it happens after five minutes, the debut is not easy, but he reacted. I subbed him off because he was on a yellow card and I didn’t want to take any risk. Being down to ten men against this team would have been lethal.

“All our midfielders can play in different areas, rotations on the wings are important, but also in the middle of the park.

“We were a bit slow in the first half but didn’t panic. The guys know we can score many goals by playing like this.”
