The Giallorossi can’t seem to find consistency, as they followed defeat to Sampdoria with a 5-1 win over Carpi, then lost 3-2 in the Champions League to BATE Borisov.

“We made the most of all being together the day after the game before telling them all what I thought, because we had some good things and others not so good that made it difficult to get back into it,” said Garcia in a Press conference.

“The team is there, but we must be more consistent even within a single match. The most important game is always the next one up. For the moment we are four points off the top of the table and will go to Palermo looking for victory, as always.”

There are injury problems, as Francesco Totti, Seydou Keita, Edin Dzeko and Antonio Rudiger are still out of action.

President Jim Pallotta said Roma have a strong squad and it’s up to Garcia to put them on the pitch. Does he agree?

“That’s only normal, I am the Coach. I have to make the most of the quality we already had and that of the new arrivals. We want to go forward with quality football and become more consistent.

“If we finished second two years in a row, it means he team has a strong mentality. Now we are only at the start of this season and I have to make my choices.

“After that, more than reacting to early events, we should be playing well from the start with the right ambition. We must always be in the game.

“It’s not a physical issue, because we don’t put in a second half performance like the one in Belarus without good fitness levels.

“What counts is not only the result in Palermo, but also the performance. If we don’t win even when playing well, then the atmosphere is going to get heavy around us. I know the rules of the game, so I have to be as motivated and combative as ever.

“I still want to win with Roma, so that dream has not changed. For the rest I have no time to waste. I do my talking on the pitch.

“The fact remains we are still in the running for all our objectives. As for Europe, we need a big result in Leverkusen, but it’s still all in the balance.”

Garcia was asked if he regrets staying on at Roma after last season.

“Not at all. I am happy here, the club does everything to give its best. The players do everything to do well. When we make the most of the full potential this squad has, we can do great things.

“It just seems a bit early to be making judgments.”
