Rudi Garcia refused to be drawn on the subject of Mehdi Benatia ahead of Roma’s meeting with Bayern Munich and their former defender.

Benatia left the Giallorossi in a €26m deal this summer to join the Bavarian giants and was the subject of strong criticism from President James Pallotta for his version of why he moved.

However, in preparing for tomorrow evening’s reunion with the defender at the Olimpico in the third matchday of the Champions League group stage, Garcia was in no mood to discuss Benatia.

“I only speak for my team, and Benatia is no longer a Roma player,” the Coach told today’s pre-match Press conference.

“He isn’t a Roma player anymore, therefore I’m not going to talk about him. I’m only concerned with my players.”

Garcia did however admit that a win over Bayern Munich could give his side the confidence to go on and progress from the so-called ‘Group Of Death’.

“Our goal is to upset the odds and get out of the group.

“If we win tomorrow we can start thinking about going through, but it would only be the first step in this mini-league that we’re in.”
